An Argument Against Gun Control

Talking Point 1. If we get Rid of Guns, we get Rid of Gun Violence
(NOTE! This is a loaded argument weighted on the anti-gun side for it implies that there would be no violence without guns.
The real talking point would be If we get Rid of Guns, we get Rid of Violence, but the anti-gun lobby can not defend that.)

Response: True. No guns does equal no gun violence. Same as banning water will diminish drowning deaths. And like banning water, the result will actually lead to many more deaths. We all need water to survive and some of us need guns to survive. Those that claim that we do not need guns to survive either never venture into the woods, swamps or mountains where natural predators live, or they have never been the victim of a home invasion. These are just 2 quick examples of the need for firearms. NOTE: Home invasions in Australia went up 67 percent when the government confiscated firearms.

Talking Point 2. Guns Make Killing Easy

Response: FALSE. Firearms are an exacting weapon. You must aim at a target to hit it which requires practice and training. There are other weapons which are indiscriminate and do not require aiming. These are much more efficient and require no training what so ever. We call them explosives. They can be made from natural ingredients that can not be banned. And unlike firearms, they can kill thousands in one instance.

Talking Point 3. Guns were Only Designed for Killing

Response: True. So were knives, spears, arrows, teeth and our very thumbs for that matter. The domesticated house cat is nothing but a killing machine. Be it flesh or vegetation, killing is a requirement for life.

Talking Point 4. Only the Police Need Guns, They will Protect us.

Response: False. Unless you have an armed detail, 9 out of 10 times the police will not be there when you need them. Were they there to protect the people at the Bat Man movie? And were they there to protect the children at school? No.

In Summation

In truth, the police are there to protect us and they will if they can, however, we must be allowed to protect ourselves as well.

If you are still anti-gun, then you are not concerned about the welfare of your fellow human beings. For if you were, you would be trying to ban automobiles. For automobiles in a 7 to 1 Ratio kill more people than guns every year.

And if you truly are concerned about your fellow human beings: You need not look at the method, rather look to the motive.
This should not be about Gun Control. It should be about controlling those in our society that are not mentally fit.
